During the summer I was chosen as the only sophomore from Charter Oak to go to the HOBY leadership conference on Chapman University's campus. The counselors at HOBY taught me a lot about all the success in the world does not exist if it is not shared with the community. Alex's Lemonade Stand is a non-profit organization that raises money for pediatric cancer. We created our own little lemonade stand on the corner and encouraged pedestrians passing to purchase our lemonade by cheering. Let's just say that many were encouraged because one man gave us a 100 dollar donation! This volunteering opportunity showed me that something so small like a lemonade stand can result in huge benefits.
